Generally referred to as FASD, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders are the most common, most expensive, yet most preventable of all mental disorders in the industrialized world. FASworld is dedicated to the idea that a woman should not drink alcohol when planning or during pregnancy.
FASworld Canada (National Alliance for FASD) is a coalition of individuals and support groups across Canada who are dedicated to the elimination of FASD and supporting the parents and caregivers who strive to provide appropriate assistance to those who struggle with the various disabilities inherent in FASD.
FASD support groups across Canada operate independently according to the needs of their local communities. However, there is little exchange of ideas and strategies among the many groups. As a result of the lack of coherent collaboration there is no significant impact on governments and social agencies to move our urgent needs forward.
Vision Statement (long term): FASD shall be recognized as Canada’s most common, most expensive, yet most preventable mental disorder.
Mission Statement (5 year outlook): Canadian FASD support organizations shall present a collective front to governments, social agencies, media and the general public to raise awareness of the social costs of FASD and create action programs to carry out this mandate.
This website endeavours to share current information about FASD, helping parents and other caregivers who are dealing with FASD issues, and providing topical news stories and announcements about conferences and workshops on FASD around the world.
Please let us know about your issues and activities relating to FASD. We strive to collect and share the wisdom and experience of all caregivers who want to support and improve the life paths of those we cherish and who struggle with FASD
If you would like to join our organization please go to our google group and register there. https://groups.google.com/group/nationalfasd?hl=en
